About depression |
Depression can manifest in different ways and feelings including: feeling sad or hopeless, lacking interest and motivation in things you normally enjoy, isolating yourself from family and friends, or having thoughts or intent about ending your life. Sometimes, people show many active symptoms of depression, but other times, it isn't as obvious to others. There are also many people who only show symptoms of depression when they are alone, but are still engaging in everyday life.
Justin suffered from high functioning depression. He seemed to have it all together, and he had so many positive things in his life. Yet, unknown to his friends and family, he was struggling. Those with high functioning depression often don't seek help because their symptoms don't feel "real" or "valid enough. This is NOT the case. |
WARNING SIGNS THAT SOMEONE MAY BE DEPRESSED OR CONSIDERING SUICIDE:Frequent irritability; absence of joy, abuse of alcohol or drugs; being overcritical of themselves; weird sleep patterns; talking about wanting to die; talking about feeling hopeless or having no purpose; expressing feelings about being a burden to others; looking for ways to hurt/ kill oneself; talking about feeling trapped or in pain; withdrawing or feeling isolated, losing interest in things/people they once enjoyed; major mood swings; dangerous or impulsive behaviors; etc.
This is not a comprehensive list of symptoms. Sometimes, people experience different symptoms or feelings or may not show any signs at all. |
